Have you ever wanted to learn how to make your own shoes? Make your own leather sandals in this one-day workshop, led by Stace Fulwiler at Craft Sierra Madre. In this workshop you will learn to make your own custom pair of handmade leather sandals, custom fit to your very own feet.  No previous leather or shoemaking experience is necessary, Stace will teach you each step of the process and will bring all the leather, tools & supplies you'll need.  View photos of past sandal making workshops & student-made sandals HERE and read student testimonials HERE

Over the course of the day, you will explore every step of the sandal making process: shaping your leather soles, attaching your heels, cutting out your straps & insoles, fitting the sandal to your foot and sanding down the edges once they are complete.

We will reference a handful of simple sandal designs as a jumping off point for making your pair of dream sandals. You can choose to keep it simple and make the design as-is, or modify & customize your design to your heart’s content! If you are set on creating a specific design, we can usually make it happen.

Stace will bring the basic leather colors: black, espresso, caramel, and natural vegetable tanned leather, as well as an assortment of colorful leather & suede.

As you learn how to make your own sandals, you will also learn the basics of leather crafting and you will become familiar with the essential tools and supplies of shoe making. Starting with sandal making is a great introduction to the processes and tools one uses to construct shoes.

At the end of the workshop, Stace will finish your sandals on the belt sander, refining the fit and finishing the edges.  You will be able to walk away from the workshop wearing your newly made custom sandals!

Details:

Where: Craft Sierra Madre, 49 W. Sierra Madre Blvd, Sierra Madre, CA 91024

When: 10am-3pm. Some of you may finish earlier. We will take about 20 minutes for a lunch break; feel free to pack a lunch or there are many walkable options nearby.

What to bring: working hands and outfits!  We will be cutting, kneeling, bending and standing during the sandal making process so wear something comfortable. It’s best to wear sandals as we will be getting in and out of shoes during the fitting process. Bring a water bottle and snacks to keep you going.

Workshop Fee: $195, includes everything you need to create your very own pair of handmade sandals.  All tools, leather, patterns, supplies, and materials will be provided. Sign up HERE

If you are BIPOC or Trans and cannot afford this workshop, please email contact@stacefulwiler.com for a sliding scale ticket rate. Discounted ticket rates are limited.

What you will make: handmade sandals fit to your own feet; made with a round-toe leather sole, 3/8" stacked leather heels and leather uppers.  You’ll also take home an outline of the sandal making process that includes ‘care and feeding’ of your new sandals and a list of leather and shoe supply resources, if you wish to continue sandalmaking after the workshop.
