Join Stace Fulwiler for her first sandal making workshop in New York! Join us at Make Workshop to learn how to make your own sandals. In this workshop, you will learn to make your own custom pair of handmade leather sandals.  No experience is necessary, Stace will bring all the leather, tools & supplies you'll need. To get an idea of what you’ll be able to make, check out these photos of past workshops & student-made sandals.

Over the course of the workshop, you will explore every step of the sandal making process: shaping your leather soles, attaching your heels, cutting out your straps & insoles, and fitting the sandal to your foot.

We will reference a handful of simple sandal designs as a jumping off point for making your pair of dream sandals. You can choose to keep it simple and make the design as-is, or modify & customize your design to your heart’s content! If you are set on creating a specific design, we can usually make it happen.

Stace will bring the basic leather colors: black, espresso, caramel, and natural vegetable tanned leather, as well as an assortment of colorful leather & suede.

As you make your sandals, you will also learn the basics of leather crafting and will become familiar with the essential tools and supplies of shoemaking. If you have ever wanted to learn how to make your own shoes, this sandal making workshop is a great introduction to the processes and tools you would use to construct shoes.

At the end of the workshop, Stace will bring your sandals back to her studio to finish them on the belt sander, refining the fit and finishing the edges.  Your finished sandals will be shipped back to you within a week.

Where: Make Workshop, 256 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

When: Sunday July 21, 2019, 11am-3pm. Some of you may finish earlier. We will take about 30 minutes for a lunch break.

What to bring: Working hands and outfits; we will be cutting, kneeling, bending and standing during the sandal making process, so wear something comfortable. It’s best to wear sandals as we will be getting in and out of shoes during the fitting process. Bring a water bottle and snacks to keep you going.

Workshop Fee: $220 + $80 materials fee. This includes everything you need to create your very own pair of handmade sandals.  All tools, leather, patterns, and supplies will be provided. Sign up HERE.

What you will make: handmade sandals fit to your own feet; made with a leather sole, 3/8" stacked leather heels and leather uppers.  You’ll also take home an outline of the sandal making process that includes ‘care and feeding’ of your new sandals and a list of leather and shoe supply resources, should you wish to continue sandal making after the workshop.
