Make your own leather sandals in one day

San Diego, CA at Maven, Sunday June 23rd 11am-4pm

San Diego, CA at Maven, Sunday June 23rd 11am-4pm

Join Stace Fulwiler at Maven for a day of sandal making! In this workshop you will learn to make your own custom pair of handmade leather sandals.  No experience is necessary, Stace will bring all the tools & supplies you'll need.  View photos of past workshops & student-made sandals HERE and read student testimonials HERE

We will reference a handful of simple sandal designs as a jumping off point for making your pair of dream sandals. You can choose to keep it simple and make the design as-is, or modify & customize your design to your heart’s content! If you are set on creating a specific design, we can usually make it happen.

Stace will bring the basic leather colors: black, espresso, caramel, and natural vegetable tanned leather, as well as an assortment of colorful leather & suede.

Over the course of making your sandals, you will also learn the basics of leather crafting and you will become familiar with the essential tools and supplies of shoemaking.

At the end of the workshop, we will sand your sandals down on a belt sander, refining the fit and finishing the edges.  You will be able to walk away from the workshop wearing your new self-made sandals!

Where: Maven, 2946 Adams Avenue, San Diego, CA

When: Sunday June 23rd from 11am-4pm (some of you may finish a little earlier). We will take about 20 minute for a lunch break. Light snacks will be provided and we will enjoy a little sparkling wine after the workshop to celebrate making your first pair of sandals

What to bring: working hands and outfits!  We will be cutting, kneeling, bending and standing during the sandal making process so wear something comfortable. Bring snacks and a water bottle to keep you going. It’s best to wear sandals as we will be getting in and out of shoes during the fitting process.

Workshop Fee: $225, includes everything you need to create your very own pair of handmade sandals.  All tools, leather, patterns, supplies, and materials will be provided.

If you are BIPOC and cannot afford this workshop, please email for a sliding scale ticket rate. Discounted ticket rates are limited.

What you will make: handmade sandals fit to your own feet; made with a round-toe leather sole, 3/8" stacked leather heels and leather uppers.  You’ll also take home an outline of the sandal making process that includes ‘care and feeding’ of your new sandals and a list of local leather and shoe supply resources, if you wish to continue sandalmaking after the workshop.
